Transforming a California Craftsman into a Los Angeles Film Location House

When Grant and Jessica George stumbled upon this turn-the-century California Craftsman, they knew they had a project ahead of themselves. The house had been visibly unloved. But under the overgrowth and dirty drapes, was a house that had character at every turn and they were destined to bring it back to its youthful elegance. After the many neighbors who stopped by to thank them for their love, more people started to notice this little gem emerge. For years, they got approached about having it become part of the historical society, but vanity got in their way. It wasn’t done enough, pink floors covered gorgeous wood and that needed to go. They also began receiving notes in their mailbox and knocks on the door from Location Scouts inquiring about using their home for a shoot. Again, they were hesitant. About 10 years ago, they bit the bullet and invited their first crew to come in and shoot a Subway ad. Their house was brimming with film crew and about 25 kids and their parents as their enormous Deodar tree became the highlight and backdrop for the commercial entitled “Movie Night”.

Being part of the industry as well, the Georges know what it takes to make good TV and Film, and they have been the best hosts to many major crews, filling their double lot with swoon-worthy movie stars and of course, enjoying every second of it, while staying out of the way.

When asked about their fear of having people in and out of their house, they said, “We feel very safe. Every single crew we have had was welcome and treated our home and property with respect and care. We couldn’t have asked for anything more.” As such, they have turned their beautiful historical site into a much-desired property for filming commercials, movies, docu-series, primetime television and print campaigns. “It’s a kick. We love it and we support our industry whole-heartedly. Also, you can’t beat passive income.”
